Glendale Watch is a companion website for the Glendale Alliance, a group of concerned citizens who are tired of the City Council refusing to listen to its constituents.
The primary purpose and goal of the Glendale Alliance is to educate voters and to encourage voters to turn out in record numbers next April when we have an opportunity to add some City Council members who will answer to the people and turn their backs on wealthy special interests.
The more specific purpose of the Glendale Watch website and blog is to publicize cases where the City Council ignores the residents of Glendale, abuses and ridicules public speakers and generally conducts themselves in a manner which is embarrassing and detrimental to the good citizens of Glendale.
The concern is not just about the City Council turning a deaf ear to one or two people at Oral Communications, or ignoring a few emails here and there - the concern is when DOZENS of neighbors show up at a City Council hearing to voice their opposition to some construction project and the City Council just ignores the public input, usually with disparaging remarks or personal attacks on the speakers.
Within the last year we’ve seen this in cases in Northwest (mansionization), Glenoaks (controversial spot-zoning case the neighbors are all against), and Chevy Chase (any number of projects, one with 200 signatures on a petition that was summarily dismissed) just to name a few instances.
